The Center for Community Health and Well-Being is a comprehensive health and human services agency that was founded in 1988 as The Birthing Project, an all volunteer, community service project to lower Infant Mortality in Sacramento.
The Center includes a comprehensive women's health care clinic, Nia, The Birthing Project Clinic, which is a vital asset for low-income women who would otherwise not have access to comprehensive pre and post-natal care.
It is their goal to ensure babies are born as healthy as possible by providing a wide array of services, including parenting and nutrition education, family planning, an on-site MediCal eligibility worker, transportation and referrals for other needed services. The Birthing Project is where the SisterFriend program was born, a program which provides friendship, education, and emotional support for women during pregnancy, birth, and the baby’s first year.
The Center for Community Health and Well-Being is also the home of the Judge Alice Lytle Academy of Dreams, a risk-reduction/youth leadership program targeting female adolescents ages 14-21. It is their belief that through knowledge and access to supportive networks youth will make decisions that minimize the occurrence of early pregnancy and other at-risk behaviors.
The Birthing Project Clinic is able to provide transportation to and from the clinic by arrangement, as well as 24/7 instant connections to a Doctor’s office for labor and delivery.
