Mercy Clinics
Many of those served by Mercy face impossible choices – paying rent or seeking medical care, for example – as they struggle to balance their daily needs while working in low-wage jobs or living on fixed incomes. Others, unemployed and homeless, have no source of healthcare.
Building healthy communities for all residents is a core mission for the Mercy family of hospitals, with a special focus on those who are unable to access primary medical services for basic needs. Mercy’s free and low-cost clinics provide primary healthcare for more than 31,000 patients in 2008, all of whom are low-income, uninsured or underinsured.
Community programs and services offered by the hospitals are primarily intended to help underserved and at-risk populations and promote health awareness, education, and positive change. At the heart of these programs and services are Mercy’s free and low-cost clinics that serve uninsured, underinsured and undocumented immigrant populations. These clinics are part of the region’s safety net, providing access to primary care for those in need.
